Studying Abroad

Over the last couple of weeks I have been going through the application process to study in Sweden next semester. I received my acceptance letter on Friday. The process here at George Mason University was long, but not as cumbersome as I have come to expect from Mason. The hoops were many but logical.

The institution to which I'll be going is in the small southern city of Joenkoeping. (http://www.hj.se) It teaches many of its classes in English so I don't have to know Swedish before I leave GMU and the U.s. I'm planning on taking courses in the language when I get there and hopefully I'll pick up some of it naturally

I now have another application process to complete. The visa. The embassy requires a lot of personal documents and a quick eight page visa application. The students coming from other European Union countries have a truncated, easier process. I wish I lived in an EU or Schengen country.

It should be an exciting adventure and I'll probably forget all about the bureaucratic nightmare that is studying abroad.
